The Appalachian Mountains are recognized for their remarkable diversity of wildflowers, amphibians, insects, and trees and shrubs. Wildwood Park, in the Central Appalachian Mountains of southwest Virginia, is a 55 acre natural area. The park is dominated by forests, wetlands, and meadows on steep east- and west-facing slopes, limestone cliffs, and low-lying floodplains of Connelly's Run, a permanent freshwater stream. A paved bicycle path and hiking trails also extend throughout the park. Natural habitats at Wildwood Park include diverse mixed-mesophytic forests, dry-mesic oak forests and calcareous woodlands, and stream-edge alluvial floodplains. "Ephemeral" spring wildflowers at the park contribute to state and local economies by promoting tourism and overall aesthetic beauty in the area. Map of Wildwood Park in Radford, Virginia.
